If you are using Firefox or a derivate of it, you can switch animations off. Enter "about:config" as URL. You might get a warning, that it's dangerous to change the settings. But continue... Then enter in the filter-field "image.animation_mode". Double-click it and enter "none" (without quotation marks). That's it.
